The Coalition for Responsible Evolution of AI, known as (CoRE – AI) in layman’s terms, has been launched. This action is one of its kind and a pioneering step in monitoring and controlling AI usage. Tech giants like Google, Microsoft; IT Heads like Infosys, and then reckoned learning institutes like IIM Bangalore and Ashoka University have formed a multi-stakeholder coalition of more than 30 important members. Several start-ups are also a part of this coalition including BharatGPT-creator CoRover.ai and AI music startup Beatoven.ai.

The conceptualization behind this project was to develop an apex institute that could perform as a regulatory body and contribute to the development of powerfully built AI monitoring systems. Another fundamental goal is to create trust for AI and its applications in various fields in the minds of people by providing discretion to users and their data. CoRE – AI is formed so that it can address typical issues like algorithmic biases, fairness, and transparency among many others.

With the arrival of AI, many opportunities as well as many challenges have also come into the picture. One of the major challenges is the ethical use of AI. In India, we have seen how many celebrities have been facing the issue of their voices, faces, or bodies being used for entertainment purposes without their consent.

And, that’s when CoRE – AI comes into the picture. Its arrangement has been made to ensure that such ethical malpractices could be stopped. And, it further bridges the gap between industries, academic institutions, and startups.

But, because AI is the next big thing, what is imperative is to somehow make it work properly and therefore the government of India validated a budget of Rs. 10,372 crores. The inclusion of the government and the industry together in this project has provided it with the much-needed balance to smoothly run and perform.

The main objective of this project is to inform the citizens about the basic differences between the Regulation of AI and the ‘Responsible Regulation’ of AI. The CoRE-AI will have its official website which will impart the basic information regarding their initiatives and resources.
