Three women including a girl child were found dead in separate rooms of their home in the Tangra region, East Kolkata. On Wednesday, the three male members  of the same family crashed their car into a Metro Rail Pillar a short distance from their home.

The deceased have been identified as Sudeshna Dey, Romi Dey and her minor daughter. The casualties involved in the car accident are identified as Pranay Dey, Sudeshna’s husband, Prasun Dey, Romi’s husband and their son, who are in a stable condition currently.

The deaths came to light when one of the brothers informed the police. As reported by PTI, he told the Police that their family entered into a suicide pact and consumed porridge infused with poision. However, the post-mortem reports released on Thursday revealed that the women were murdered.

Romi and Sudeshna’s both wrists had slits and the minor had injuries all over her lips, legs and body. The slit and injuries were declared anti-mortem(inflicted before death). An Officer told PTI that a fluid found in the minor’s stomach had a medicinal odor and poisoning was determined to be the cause of death. The autopsy findings showed that the deceased were  killed  after three to six hours of consuming their last meal.

A senior Official of Kolkata Police said, “They died around 36 to 48 hours before the bodies were found on Wednesday morning.”Investigators suspect that the brothers were actively involved in the murder as they claimed it to be a suicide and misguided the investigators.

Samples have been collected from the dining and restroom area where blood stains were discovered. Reportedly, the family was involved in the tannery business and had been facing financial difficulties. An officer stated, “A murder case has been lodged against unidentified persons. We are investigating the matter.”
