Incessant Rains in Pune cause havoc

In reports coming from the city, there were four people caught dead in a heavy downpour of clouds, it was confirmed that these deaths were related to the ongoing heavy spells of rain in Pune. The excessive water on the streets entered many residential areas and into the homes of the locals. 

Out of the four people reported dead, three died due to electrocution as the water at the Pulachi Wadi caused many sparks while one person lost his life in a landslide triggered by rainfall in Agarwadi village in Maval Tehsil. 

The Indian Meteorological Department has decided to issue a Red Alert in the city. Amidst the incessant waterlogging and dangerous situation occurring the District Collector, Suhas Diwase has issued all schools to be shut till further notice. 

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra has talked about the issue with the officers of the Air Force and has put the Forse on alert to avail any flood relief Operations needed in Pune. 

Since the start of the monsoon, Pune has recorded the highest range of rainfalls on the 24th of July i.e. 567.7 mm reported by the IMD.

The very famous temple with great historic significance, “The Omkareshwar Temple” in Pune City was submerged due to the constant pouring of the rains, the endless rains caused many concerns amongst the devotees as they were stuck in the temple without a way to get back to their homes. The emergency services were called to immediate rescue. 

The Fire Brigade has issued tasks to 200 firefighters in the city, which has helped in rescuing 160 people in various parts of the city. Two teams from the National Response Disaster Force (NRDF) helped the people of Ekta Nagari in Sinhgad Road where many families were stuck at their homes due to extreme waterlogging without access to light or food. Also in Talegaon a Batallion of fighters saved many people stuck in their homes. 

In reports coming from the government as many as ninety-four people in Maharashtra have lost their lives due to heavy rains. 141 people have been injured, 241 people evacuated from their homes and 306 animals lost their lives. Maharashtra is grappling with an urgent need for fit prevention for this monsoon session.
