In a striking turn of events, French police announced the arrest of two men in connection with the daring jewel theft at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The robbery happened on October 19 when four masked thieves made off with eight priceless pieces of the French crown collection. Informants now say that DNA evidence and surveillance footage led officers to detain two suspects in their 30s. One was stopped at Charles de Gaulle airport as he attempted a flight to Algeria, and the other was arrested in Seine-Saint-Denis.

The value of the stolen jewels is estimated at around €88 million. The burglars struck in under eight minutes. They reportedly used a rented lift truck to reach a window of the Galerie d’Apollon, broke into display cases, and fled the scene on scooters. According to the prosecutor, the suspects have “partially admitted” their roles. The jewels remain missing.

Investigators believe at least one of the suspects holds dual nationality, which is French and Algerian, and both individuals have prior criminal records. The Paris prosecutor expressed frustration at media leaks, warning that these could hamper efforts to recover the gems and bring the full gang to justice. Meanwhile, more than 100 investigators are reportedly working around the clock on the case.

The heist not only stunned the world but also exposed major security gaps at the museum. An official admitted that the only external camera covering the affected area was pointing the wrong way, and key surveillance upgrades remain unfinished. The event has become a lightning rod for criticism about how one of the world’s most-visited museums protects its treasures.

The investigation continues to grip France and the global art world. Security experts are now calling for a complete review of museum safety protocols, citing this case as a wake-up call for cultural institutions everywhere. Officials say public cooperation is crucial and warns anyone with information on the stolen jewels is urged to come forward immediately.
