Ukraine and the United States will sign a deal on Friday, as Ukraine has agreed upon the mineral deal with the US. It was reported on Tuesday, 26 February 2025, by the officials of both Ukraine and the United States that the countries have agreed to sign a mineral deal this week. In an interview with AFP, an official from Ukraine explained that the goal of the agreement between the two countries is to develop the ‘mineral wealth’ of the country. He said that ‘the revenue generated from these minerals will be used as funds for both the countries.’
Explaining the draft of the deal, the official mentioned that one of the clauses states that the US will guarantee the security of Ukraine. The official said that ‘there is a common clause in the deal which both the countries have agreed to. The clause states that the US will invest in the security of the country to ensure peace and prosperity.’ Moving the deal in a positive direction, the official mentioned that US President Donald Trump has agreed to remove any clause that is not in favor of Ukraine. He stated that the deal of $500 million had been canceled. The $500 billion deal stated that the US will be receiving minerals worth $500 billion from Ukraine which will be further used in developing the US’s economy. He said that the US planned to spend the amount on various expenditures such as aerospace and technology. Moreover, he also mentioned that out of $500 billion, almost $22 billion will be provided for military service aid.’
On the other hand, the United States has confirmed that the deal will be signed by Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky on 28 February 2025, Friday in Washington. One of the officials from the US stated that the deal would decide the future of the country. He stated that ‘this deal could either succeed immensely or could fail drastically. The success or failure of the deal will depend on the talks between the President of the two nations.’
Trump however has not yet given any statement on the benefits that Ukraine will avail from the deal.
