Police have implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to protect female workers at their places of employment after the murder of Shubhada Shankar Kodare by her colleague. The 28-year-old accountant working for a multinational Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firm became the victim of workplace violence. The SOPs specifically target safety audits and access control and communication systems that protect employees from violence and discrimination.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar made this announcement while interacting with IT professionals and corporate representatives from Magarpatta City. He also stated that the SOPs had been developed after a thorough examination of the incident.

The incident occurred at 6:15 PM on January 7, when Kodaare was attacked in the WNS Global Services parking lot in Yerawada. Accountant Krishna Satyanarayana Kanoja, aged 30, who lived in Shivajinagar carried a kitchen knife in his laptop bag before starting the fatal attack. Police investigations revealed that the attack took place as Kodare failed to repay the money that she borrowed from Kanoja. She sustained excessive blood loss due to her hand injury that caused her death. Kanoja was arrested following this violent episode.

According to Kumar, preventing incidents like these requires the proper implementation of metal detector systems and sample security checks at workplaces. Some unpredictable incidents can occur but implementing security measures together with vigilance helps decrease potential risks.

Officials have promised that the perpetrators will face severe consequences and have sent their sympathy to Kodare’s family.
