Owen Cooper, the 15 year old actor from England has become a buzz ever since he received the 2025 Emmy award. Cooper bagged the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthropology Series. This win makes him the youngest male actor to win the most prestigious award of television.
Being in the race with actors like Javier Bardem who was nominated for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and Peter Sarsgaard who proudly stood for presumed Innocent. Not just these, there were also Rob Delaney for Dying for Sex and Cooper’s co-star Ashley Walters. But Owen successfully stood above all for Adolescence, which in fact was his debut performance.
This win has been the center of many conversations revolving around not only Cooper’s outstanding performance but also that he has broken the record of being the youngest male, which was held by Scott Jacoby for 50 years. Jacoby won this award at the age of 16 for That Certain Summer in 1973.
For Adolescence as a whole, it was a night of celebration with the series claiming eight Emmy awards. Director Philip Barantini took home the award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Stephen Graham won Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Writing, which he shared with Jack Thorne.
Beyond Adolescence, the Emmy was a success with laughs, tears, record breaking and unexpected reunions. The ceremony ran almost as scheduled and ended only a few minutes late. With Owen Cooper becoming the youngest male actor to the OG Gilmore Girls, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham reuniting to present an award, Emmy 2025 had it all. Further, this year’s Big Three Wins included 8 awards to Adolescence, 4 awards to The Studio and 3 for The Pitt which when clubbed with the show’s picks from the Creative Arts Emmys makes 13. This included both Primetime and Creative Arts.
