After ‘Kantara’ took over the nation by storm and carved a massive success for itself, the makers of the movie have been meticulously working on the prequel of the film, Kantara 2. Fans who have been eagerly waiting for the release of the prequel would now be shocked to know about the whooping budget it would be created on.
Directed by Rishabh Shetty and produced by Hombale Films, the latest buzz regarding the prequel budget is that it is said to be carrying an unbelievable budget of Rs. 125 crores. Reportedly, the first part of the film was made on a Rs. 16 crores budget. This would mean that there has been an increase of over Rs. 100 crore, indicating a hike of about 681%!
The success of part 1 is no surprise. It collected a jaw-dropping Rs. 400 crores at the box office globally, overshadowing the success of even KGF Chapter 2. It also managed to capture the audience of North India, making over 100 crores. This time around, filmmakers will focus on showcasing the importance of Panjurli Daiva in the Tulu region of Karnataka.
As opposed to the first chapter, which was set in Rishabh Shetty’s hometown of Kundapura, the prequel takes place in Mangalore. The goal is to finish the movie by the first quarter of 2025, and the creators are considering a late 2024 theatrical release. The film’s production might start in November of this year.
Commenting on the upcoming prequel of the film, Rishabh said, “We are very pleased and thankful to the audience who have expressed tremendous love and support to Kantara and proceeding with the journey, with the blessing of almighty Daiva the film has successfully completed 100 days and I would like to announce the prequel of Kantara on this occasion. What you have seen actually is part 2, part 1 will come next year.”
