It was a special morning for the students of Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication and Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies to attend a special screening of an exceptional movie produced by Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao. The Audi was filled with elated students and excited faculties, as all sat down to watch the masterpiece with our eyes wide open and holding a bucket of popcorn. It was a ride well deserving of the standing ovation and the applause it received at the end of its screening.
Just before the movie started the students were introduced to the Director- Kiran Rao, its writer Sneha Desai, and the wonderful cast Chhaya Kadam, Sparsh Srivastava, Nitanshi Goel, and Pratibha Ranta accompanied by our respected Pro-Chancellor Vidya Yeravdekar.
The movie was a joyful ride, from the very start of the film it held the audience’s attention to the core, the themes the plot touched on were phenomenal, and the subtle art of the director and writer to bring this stigmatising, sensitive and age-old set-backs, and dilemmas faced by so many women in our country till date was inspiring to watch.
The young actors- Sparsh Srivastava, Nitanshi Goel, and Pratibha Ranta delivered a captivating performance throughout the film and it felt like they were not at all new to this, the acting, the costume, and the set design were all so natural and appropriately placed enhancing the existing versatility the film delivered.
The writer shed some light on how important it was for the jokes to land on the write spot if not the impact would not have been the same- she also highlighted the hardwork and immense talent of the director Kiran Rao and the complete cast.
An interactive session with none other than Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao with the whole cast of Laapata Ladies followed the screening. Many students asked technical questions and appreciated the beauty of the film. SIMC Faculty members Dr. Neha Jindal and Dr. Mithun Chakraborty also interacted with the team.
The film’s climax received a standing ovation joined with a round of applause. It is surely a must-watch. Releasing on the 1st of March in all cinemas all over India.
