Hindu Sadhus attacked on the assumption of being Muslims

The supporters of Hindutva allegedly attacked three Hindu Sadhus in Meerut district of Uttar
Pradesh on the suspicion of being Muslims. In the Prahlad Nagar of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, three Hindu sadhus- Sunil Kumar, Gaurav Kumar and Gopinath were attacked by the supporters of Hindutva when they were mistaken to be people from Muslim community. They were attacked with sticks in front of Lisari Gate Police Station, Meerut.
All the three victims were suspected of being Muslims and being involved in a child abduction case. After the police arrested the three victims, they found out during the investigation that all three of them were of the Hindu community and belonged to Jagadhri an area of Yamunanagar district of Haryana. They were later sent home after the enquiry. The video of the attack and the painful cries of the sadhus went viral on social media. The video of Hindu sadhus being beaten up for being mistaken as Muslims caused a concern among people as mob violence against Muslims are on rise.
The prominent Muslim bodies: Jamaat-e-Islaami Hind and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind have raised voices regarding the deliberate attack on their community since the election results were announced on 4 June 2024. They claimed that the Muslim community is being targeted and the hatred towards them is being projected in the form of violence like the mob attack and mob lynching.
Salim Engineer the vice-president of Jamaat-e-Islaami Hind said that even though it’s been more than a month since the BJP led NDA government came to power, there has been no preventive measures taken by the government to stop these attacks. Around 10 mob lynching cases from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh has been reported to the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) within the span of one month. Moreover, cases of communal violence gas been reported in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Rajasthan. There have been no actions taken by the government and the police even after the FIR gas been filed. Such actions clearly reflect that the Muslim community is being targeted.
