There has been a noticeable shift in the arena of AI globally. This shift caused chaos amongst the stock markets as China introduced a new startup model known as DeepSeek. This model is quickly changing the AI scenario for the US as it has many benefits. The DeepSeek  offers a high performance technology that is available at a comparatively low rate.

With the advent of such a high functioning and low cost technology the Wall Street which is the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York, was shaken to its core as it lost $1 trillion from the Nasdaq’s market value. This led to the rise in debates about the sustainability and standing of Us’s domination in the AI sector.

Nvidia, the US chipmaker, which lies at the core of the AI infrastructure, suffered a massive and possibly the largest market loss that happened in one day. This incident is probably the first of its kind in history as Nvidia lost close to $600 billion in value.

Not only this, but the Nasdaq Composite also dropped by 3.1% along with Alphabet, Google’s parent company losing around $100 billion. Even Microsoft succumbed to this shift and dropped $7 billion. This shift has shaken the US’s tech foundation dramatically and certainly marks a critical moment in the race between America and China for gaining supremacy in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

This issue is of dire importance as DeepSeek’s success poses a threat to the current and prevailing assumptions to establish dominance in the AI industry, one needs hefty financial aid along with investments and the latest technology. DeepSeek has successfully overtaken the US export restrictions by producing its latest model using Nvidia’s H800 chips that aren’t that advanced. In doing so, it has aptly delivered an AI interface that is half the price of AI systems offered by its rivals such as Google and OpenAI.

Commenting on this move by DeepSeek, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI said that, “DeepSeek’s r1 is an impressive model, particularly around what they’re able to deliver for the price. We will obviously deliver much better models, and it’s legit invigorating to have a new competitor! We will put up some releases.”

With that being said, there is no denying that DeepSeek’s announcement regarding their new model can surely create chaos that can ultimately lead to a price war in the AI market. This shift will certainly force its competitors to come up with better business models while reassessing their current ones. Its open-source approach has already gained popularity and praise as it promises a more democratized access towards the AI industry.
