The Parvati police have detained four minors for allegedly vandalizing around 30 vehicles in the early hours of Tuesday. The vehicles included auto rickshaws and two-wheelers. The incident took place between 1:30 am and 2:00 am in the Janata Vasahat area. The Police are in search of four other associates who were reportedly involved in the act.
Initially, the minors refused to share the intent behind their actions. However, after questioning, they revealed that the destruction was triggered by remarks made about one of the boys’ fathers. Police sources revealed that the same group had previously been detained in connection with another rioting incident, during which they had hurled stones at houses in the locality.
According to officials, the suspects used iron rods and stones to damage the vehicles, smashing mirrors, headlamps, seats, and even the hoods and windshields of auto rickshaws. The local residents discovered the damaged vehicles around 5 am the same day and reported them to the Police. Following the incident, the Parvati police filed a suo-motu case on charges of rioting and mischief.
Senior Inspector of the Parvati Police, Nandkumar Gaikwad stated that the alleged vandalizers belong to economically backward class, with their parents working as daily wage laborers.
The investigation remains ongoing.
