Pune: The Modi-Trump chemistry began during the first presidential administration of Donald Trump back in 2017 and it has indeed strengthened and broadened horizons between both countries. The recent bilateral meet which happened on 13th February, 2025 at the White House where Modi ended his two-day trip to the US had discussions which included trade, F-35 jets being sold to India, energy purchase of India, illegal immigration, extradition of 26/11 attackers and India-China border dispute.
The association of India along with US in their profound motto of being known as the MIGA (Make India Great Again) + MAGA (Make America Great Again) which will foster in a MEGA partnership for prosperity between the two countries have several key takeaways. To elaborate on the addressed issues and agreements are a few underneath:
PM Modi in his trade discussions agreed upon how the MIGA+MAGA will result in the partnership of prosperity and thus mega spirit will give new scope and scale to our objectives in this motto. He also added how India and the US are set to achieve a $500 billion trade target which is to ensure joint development, joint production and transfer of technology between the two countries.
Giving an all-time boost in the defence cooperation Donald Trump agreed on US selling F-35 stealth fighter jets to India. The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, is known to be the most extensively deployed fifth-generation fighter jet. The discussions further led to the agreement of increase in the purchase of energy. This would in turn balance the trade deficit between India and the United States.
US approved the extradition of Tahawwur Rana from the United States who is a known accused in the 26/11 attacks.He has further agreed upon to de-escalate the situation in the border dispute by mediating for the same.
PM Modi went on talking about how he is ready to take in all verified and true citizens of India who are held back illegally.
