People above the age of eighteen will not receive Aadhar cards for another year. The Assam state cabinet implemented this decision. A different protocol is followed for scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, and tea garden workers to ensure that they do not face hurdles due to their socioeconomic status in the country. Hence, they are exempt from the recent changes in the Aadhar card new registration approval for adults. Himanta Biswa Sharma, the Assam Chief Minister, further added that a window duration will be extended for those individuals who could not obtain an Aadhar card and belong to other communities. The process will take place in the month of September.
In case an individual is unable to complete the formalities within the stipulated District Commissioner can issue the Aadhar card. However, this mandate can only be followed if the case is rare. It is also expected that the DC will verify the information from the Special Branch Report and the Tribunal report before approving.
This decision was formulated to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants who crossed the border of Bangladesh and forged Indian citizenship through Aadhar cards. These possibilities have been completely blocked.
“We have continuously pushed back Bangladeshi nationals along the border. We want to ensure that no one (illegal foreigner) can obtain an Aadhaar card from Assam by entering into the state and claim to be an Indian citizen. We have completely closed that way,” the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sharma, added.
He further emphasised the statistics by stating, ‘The Aadhaar saturation of general people in Assam is 103 per cent, which signifies that no people are left and the number of cards exceeded the number of total people.”
Many people from the tea tribal community, SC and ST have not received Aadhar cards. The saturation percentage is Ninety-six.

In the last year, we have been regularly capturing illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and pushing them back. Yesterday, we pushed back seven people. We do not know if anyone could slip through the security checks and stay back.”
