Amidst repeated disruptions and clashes of opinions, the monsoon session of the Parliament has passed 26 new bills, of which twelve were from the Lok Sabha and 14 by the Rajya Sabha. Despite a turbulent session marked by adjournments and several walkouts from the Opposition, the bills were finally passed.

The major discussion that took place in these sessions, which began early on July 21, 2025, was on Operation Sindoor and then over the Opposition’s demands on the Special Intensive Revision exercise by Bihar.

Throughout the session, the Government commended the legislative achievements while the Opposition parties denounced the Government and gave names, calling it “undermining of democratic debate” and “hasty passage” of contentious bills.

However, a series of crucial bills were cleared despite a series of interventions. Some of them were about social policies and reforms, including finances. A major bill that was passed in regards to Jammu and Kashmir’s administrative structure, on the other hand, posed questions and provoked criticism for its implications on state autonomy and legal revisions.

Bills in regard to Ports, Shipping and Waterways including the Merchant Shipping Bill, the Income Tax Bill (No 2) which modifies provisions of the income tax law and the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill that is proceeding to assign a separate framework who will regulate the online gaming section including gaming platforms, educational and e-sports, especially after an increasing number of financial loses were part of the major legislations enacted. A day after the gaming bill was passed, Dream11, one of India’s biggest fantasy sports platforms, will put restrictions on all games that uses real monetary transactions and might as well reportedly stop functioning at all.
Additionally, some other key bills cleared were the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Amendment Bill, the Jan Vishwas Bill, and others that were referred to the Parliament’s joint committee. A special session examined India’s first astronaut journey to the ISS and the significance of the space program for Viksit Bharat 2047.
