As of September 10, 2025, major Indian Airlines including Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India Express have suspended flights to and from Kathmandu after the The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu was closed on Tuesday because of the ongoing anti-government protests across Nepal.
IndiGo had initially suspended all their flights until noon, but extended the suspension until 6PM on September 10, 2025. For the bookings made on or before September 9, the airline has offered waivers on rescheduling and cancellations. Indigo posted on X saying if your travel plans are impacted, you may opt for an alternate flight or claim a refund. For more information, check the advisory posted on IngiGo’s website.
Passengers who have booked flights to and from Kathmandu on SpiceJet will be informed via SMS or email using the contact details they have registered. They have also advised passengers to reach out to them for refunds or rebookings on its customer support helplines.

Passengers have been offered a one time waiver on rescheduling charges, who have confirmed bookings for travel to and from Kathmandu until September 11 by Air India. It has to be noted that this is only on the tickets issued up to September 9, 2025. The suspended flights of Air India are AI2231/2232, AI2219/2220, AI217/218, and AI211/212.
The suspension of flights comes after one of the largest political unrest in recent years that has been happening in Kathmandu, Nepal. Anti-corruption protests have increased rapidly, which also led to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and President Ram Chandra Paudel and several other senior cabinet members resigning.
Citizens of India have been advised not to travel to Nepal until the situation becomes normal again by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
