In Pune district, a 21-year-old boy died and six others were injured when a truck, carrying a DJ music system for the celebration of a local politician’s birthday, crashed into the crowd. 

The event took place in the Kanda market area of Junnar town, which is approximately 95 km from Pune city. The local police have taken into custody the former local President, Devram Lande, along with the truck driver, Namdeo Rokde. According to the police, the procession included a small truck with a sound system and Zanj Pathak, which is known to be a group of Cymbal players. 

An official stated that on Wednesday afternoon, around 2:15 pm, a procession took place to celebrate Lande’s birthday. During the procession, the driver of the DJ vehicle, despite knowing that there was a crowd in front, drove the vehicle recklessly and rammed.

The  21-year-old who died was identified as Aditya Kale, one of the cymbal players. The six others injured were identified as Ramchandra Ghore (34), Balu Kishan Kale (34), Govind Shankar Kale (33), Sagar Sunil Kedari (25), Vijay Hiraman Kedari (26), and Sachin Ganpat Kedari (33).

According to an official, after the incident occurred, Devram Lande and his son, who had organised the procession, had fled away from the spot. Later, a case was registered against them, and they were taken into custody on Wednesday night. The incident has raised questions about safety concerns and accountability.
