Nizamuddin, a resident of the Ramaiah Bowli area of Mahbubnagar town, was shot and killed this month by the police in Santa Clara, California, during a disagreement with his roommate.
Officials stated that police shot Nizamuddin in Santa Clara after he allegedly stabbed his roommate with a knife while at their home on September 3. Further, police also indicated Nizamuddin had restrained a roommate who had been stabbed multiple times. However, his family reported that he was killed due to bias and demanded a full investigation into his death. According to reports, the 30-year-old tech worker had been bullied and racially discriminated against by a former employer, colleagues, and a roommate, where “the food was poisoned.”
According to a news release provided by the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD), shortly before 6:08 a.m. on Monday, a 911 call was made regarding a stabbing that occurred at a residence. “The caller stated the suspect had stabbed one victim inside the residence. SCPD officers arrived at the scene, encountered the suspect, and were involved in an officer-involved shooting,” the statement said.
Both Nizamuddin and his roommate, who sustained serious injuries, were transported to a hospital on the premises. However, Nizamuddin was later declared dead.
“I think our officer’s action prevented further injury, and in fact, likely saved at least one life,” Police Chief Cory Morgan stated, as he confirmed that two knives were recovered from the scene.
Mohammed Hasnuddin, the father of Nizamuddin, shared in a letter to S. Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, his anger at wanting the ministry to help bring back Nizamuddin’s remains. “I have, as such, requested the external affairs ministry to take necessary arrangements to send the mortal remains of Mohammed Nizamuddin back to Mahbubnagar, India,” he noted.
Husamuddin is demanding a fair investigation by both the Indian government and the US government, as his son was murdered by the police in Santa Clara in a cold-blooded murder.
