Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich have started their UEFA Champions League campaign on a good note as they defeated London-based Chelsea FC in the initial fixture of the group stage. This win was mostly led by the English marksman, as he netted two goals in favor of the Bavarians.
The Allianz Arena witnessed the successful start of a new UCL campaign as the German giants cruised past Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea effortlessly. While the initial goal was netted with the help of Trevor Chalobah, Kane quickly converted a penalty to give the Reds a two-goal advantage against the Blue Giants from Stamford Bridge. This penalty was awarded to Bayern following the foul committed by Moises Caicedo after he was dragged down to the ground in the penalty area.
This two-goal advantage seemed to be under threat as Cole Palmer had managed to score a goal in the 29th minute of the game, just a couple of minutes following Kane’s penalty conversion.
Bayern has struggled with a lot of injuries even prior to the beginning of the current season of football. Key stars like Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies have been added to the list of players who are injured.
The Croatian defender Josip Stanisic had also sustained an injury in the match. This adds to the already terrible condition of defence within Bayern, as key defenders such as Davies, Guerreiro, and Ito have been injured, and Eric Dier and Matthijs de Ligt being sold to other teams puts Bayern in a tough spot.
The Club World Cup champions were simply stunned by the blitzkrieg of attacks given by the Germans. Kane’s precision at the front has been justified yet again as he scored his 20th and 21st goals for Bayern in the UCL. He is currently the third player to have netted 20+ goals for two clubs in the UCL. While the first is Cristiano Ronaldo for both Madrid and Manchester United, the other is Neymar Jr. for Barcelona and PSG.
Cole Palmer justified his wages as he netted a brilliant top left goal and he had almost scored a second goal, which had been ruled offside. Nicolas Jackson had also made a brief appearance against the club he was loaned from but failed to make a significant impact in the time he played.
