Indian Cricketer Shubman Gill could receive a major upgrade in the latest BCCI contract list for the 2025-26 season. The decision regarding the contracts will be finalized at the BCCI’s 31st AGM, scheduled for 22nd December. Gill, who is currently the captain of the Test and ODI teams, could be promoted to the A+ Category.

According to a report by PTI, Gill could find a place in the A+ category alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah. Both Jadeja and Bumrah received A+ category contracts for the season 2024-25. Jadeja retired from the T20s, following the T20 World Cup and currently plays only Tests and ODIs, while Bumrah continues to play for all three formats.

In 2025, Gill was appointed as captain in two formats. He was appointed as Test captain before the away series in England, where he led the team to 2-2 draw. Earlier in October this year, Gill was also appointed as the ODI captain. It was a surprising move by the selectors to remove Rohit as captain even after India won the 2025 Champions Trophy under his leadership.

It was also reported by PTI that, as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket earlier this year and are currently playing only ODI cricket, they could be demoted in the BCCI central contracts for the 2025-26 season. Currently, both of them are part of the A+ category with an annual income of 7 crore. In the upcoming 2025-26 season, they could be placed in Grade A, which carries an annual salary of Rs 5 crore.

Even after retiring from T20s following the 2024 T20 World Cup, both Rohit and Kohli retained their A+ category contracts for the 2024-25 season, as they were part of the Test side. Normally, the A+ category is reserved for the players who play all three formats.
