Pranavi Urs came through a tense final round at the Asian Games 2026 to win the women’s individual gold in golf, giving India its first-ever gold in the sport at the sporting event. The 23-year-old held her nerve through a dramatic final round to finish at 15-under 265, while also helping India claim a silver medal in the women’s team event.
A Lead That Slipped
Pranavi entered the final round with a three-stroke advantage after carding a brilliant four-under 66 on Day 3. But the final day was far from straightforward.
A triple bogey on the third hole wiped out her overnight cushion and suddenly put the Indian golfer under pressure. Instead of letting the setback get to her, Pranavi fought her way back with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes.
She eventually signed off with an even-par 70. With the leaderboard tightly packed, Pranavi needed to stay composed till the very end and did exactly that, making par on the 72nd hole to finish one stroke clear at 15-under.
China’s Yin Ruoning took silver after also finishing on 14-under before the final-round scores put her at 266, while Singapore’s Shannon Tan claimed bronze after a playoff, with both players ending on 266.
“I like being the first to do things. People will come along to do more, but the first will always be the first,” said Pranavi after her historic win.
Team Silver
The individual gold was not the only medal that Pranavi took home from Aichi-Nagoya.
The three-member Indian side of Pranavi Urs, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar finished with a silver in the team event. India finished at 14-under 546, with the two best scores from each round counting towards the team total. China clinched a gold medal with the score of 22-under 538.
Aditi, who had won individual silver at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, produced her strongest round of the week with a 67. She made five consecutive birdies despite a double bogey and a bogey to finish tied 14th individually on 2-over 282.
Diksha finished tied 23rd with a total of 12-over, while Pranavi’s consistency proved crucial in contributing to the Indian team securing a medal.
The silver also marked India’s highest-ever finish in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.
For Pranavi, however, the individual gold carries an even bigger significance. It took 24 years for another Indian golfer to return to the top of the Asian Games podium after Shiv Kapur’s Gold in the year 2002.
Golf has been part of the Asian Games since the 1982 Delhi edition, where Lakshman Singh won the men’s individual gold and also contributed to India’s team gold alongside Amit Luthra and Rajiv Mohta.
More than four decades later, Pranavi has now added a new first to that history – and put Indian women’s golf firmly on the Asian Games map.
