The fashion world witnessed a notable development as Chloe Maelle was announced as the new Head of Editorial Content for American Vogue by Condé Nast. Maelle, current editor of “Vogue”(the official website for Vogue magazine) and also the co-host of “The Run-Through”.
Vogue’s weekly fashion and cultural podcast is to lead the creative and editorial direction of the title. The 39 year old former journalist stepped into the role following the highly publicized departure of Anna Wintour after concluding her historic 37 year tenure as the Editor-in-Chief. Wintour still remains Condé Nast’s Global Chief Content Officer and Vogue’s Global Editorial Director hence, this would be very beneficial for Maelle. The appointment is effective immediately and is thought to potentially bring a new chapter for the magazine.
In a statement, Maelle said, she is very thrilled and awed to be a part of the fashion and media which keep evolving at breakneck speed. Chloe Maelle had a very steady career at Vogue since she joined the magazine in 2011 as a social editor. Quickly proving her capabilities she moved further as the contributing editor in 2016 and further served as the editor of “Vogue”, a role where she reportedly doubled the website’s traffic.
A graduate student in comparative literature from Brown University, Maelle’s background is embedded in journalism. She began her career writing on property for the New York Observer and has since written for other publications like the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Architectural Digest, Marie Claire. According to Wintour, Maelle “can find the balance between American Vogue’s long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new.” Her nomination is viewed as a thought out move to steer the magazine’s digital future.
The recent announcement has drawn widespread attention, not only for its significance with the fashion industry but also for Chloe Maelle’s notable personal background. As the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and the late French filmmaker Louis Maelle.
Maelle is expected to look over the day-to-day editorial and creative operations for the U.S. edition of Vogue. Her first major assignment will be directing coverage of the upcoming New York Fashion Week.
Chloe Malle is widely respected both within the industry and beyond, and by promoting from within, Anna Wintour will continue to influence the magazine’s direction even as she prepares to step away. Condé Nast has emphasized that the core of the publication will remain unchanged. However, as the leading glossy magazine on newsstands, Malle’s appointment alongside Wintour’s ongoing role signifies the closing of a significant chapter in the history of high-profile fashion publishing.
