“Dream Girl 2,” starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Ananya Pandey, made an impressive beginning at the box office, raking in a sturdy opening of Rs. 10.69 crore. Reports indicate that the movie has broken the record as one of the top-grossing films on its debut day and the best opener in Ayushmann Khurrana’s career.
Dream Girl 2 is currently ranked eighth among 2023’s top opening day collections. The film has already surpassed hits like Kartik Aryan’s Satyaprem Ki Katha and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 with an estimated Rs. 10 crore net in earnings. The film’s box office performance is also not too far behind that of Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, both of which had similar opening numbers.
Dream Girl 2 is the follow-up to the hugely popular movie “Dream Girl” directed by Raaj Shaandilya and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor, which came out in 2019. The first movie was a huge success at the box office as well. The movie has some of the renowned faces of Bollywood- Ayushmann Khurrana, Ananya Panday, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Manoj Joshi, Seema Pahwa, and Vijay Raaz.
The story of Dream Girl 2 revolves around the life of Karam, who, as a result of a major event, changes into the character Pooja. Karam marries the son of a wealthy person with the help of his father’s guidance, setting off a chain of unsettling events.
Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari shared a heartfelt message, praising the entire cast for their performances. In her note, she mentioned, “After a long time I sat in a theater and laughed out loud without bothering about what people would say with my loud laughter.” She also expressed her belief that there’s a lot of talent for audiences to uncover in Ananya Panday as an actor.
