A prominent International School in Hinjewadi, Pune has reported to have found bomb threats via email on Wednesday and was induced to evacuate the school premises and send the students home. This was a swift action taken by the school authorities and the Pimpdi Chinchwad Police. After the evacuation, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) launched an extensive search operation throughout the campus.
Reports from Hinjewadi Police Station stated that the email was received on Wednesday morning with a warning of an explosion on the school premises. The principal immediately alerted the authorities about the explosion after which teams from the local police station, multiple divisions of Pimpdi Chinchwad Police and the BDDS were headed to the spot.
Balaji Pandhare, senior inspector in charge of Hinjewadi Police Station confirmed that the email was reviewed and the BDDS begun their extensive search throughout the school grounds. “The source of the email is also being investigated as the probe.” He said.
A senior officer stated that the evacuation process was rapid due to the school’s comparatively small class sizes which made it easier to evacuate the premises. “The BDDS team including the dog squad is on the field and no suspicious object has been found” the officer said.
Based on the observations, the email has been found to be identical to earlier hoax threats that other prominent educational institutions in Pimpdi Chiinchwad have received. Meanwhile, police have increased monitoring in the area and deployed troops to regulate traffic around the school as the investigation advances.
