Carlos Alcaraz smashes Jannik Sinner into submission to win the US Open 2024 in an arguably one-sided affair against all expectations on September 7 at the Arthur Ashe stadium in New York. The Spaniard pretty much never let the ball out of his court the whole game and was on the wheels from the very start, winning the first game, which lasted eight minutes, by breaking Sinner’s serve game.

The game lasted two hours and forty-two minutes, with Alcaraz taking home the title in a comfortable and strong four setter: 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. What was witnessed to be one of the dominant Grand Slam final displays for Alcaraz, the crowd was given a show contrary to their expectations. The World No.1, Sinner, never really got himself going following the loss of the first game and losing his serve. Whereas Alcaraz seemed like a man on a mission, capitalizing from the very beginning and snatching the momentum to his side.

The Spaniard’s first serves were remarked as out of this world, as he won 83% of points in his first serve. This has proved to be an ever-improving part of his game throughout all of his Grand Slam performances. Upon winning the second set, Sinner never really found his footing, leaving Alcaraz to handle the game in totality and winning the third set 6-1 and breaking Sinner’s spirits thereon.

Having beaten the greatest in the business to ever do it, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-final in straight sets, Carlos showed his tenacity and raw power to clinch home the US Open from the Italian World No.1 and become the new Rank 1 after two years.

Leaving no fan awaiting another generation of greatness, the two maestros set their path to attaining legendary status, as this was the first time since 2006 and 2007 that two players have dominated and shared all (8) the Grand Slam titles for two consecutive years. This record was previously held alone by legends such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Coming in from a Roland Garros final marathon and an equally contested Wimbledon final, Alcaraz came out on top in the US Open. The world no.1 now has six Grand Slams under his belt, while the Italian seeks his 5th title.
