On Friday, Sunandan Lele and Vikram Sathaye, the former students of MBA, Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), addressed the students of SIU sharing lessons that they have learnt from cricket. This event was organised by SIBM, for the students from SIBM, SIMC, SSSS, SSBF, SIHS, at the Lavale Hilltop Convention Centre.
Sunandan Lele, a veteran cricket journalist from Maharashtra and Vikram Sathaye, a cricket humorist, together delivered an insightful talk on cricket. This session was informative and innovative for the students in terms of learning life skills, via cricket. They shared their experience on, various matches and various players, off-field and on-field.
They shared some cricketing skills that can be applied to life. “Learn to run for others”, as quoted by them emphasized on learning to work for others, just like how non-striking end batsmen run for the striking end batsmen. They also enlightened on the concept of “staying in lane”, which meant switching off all the ambient disturbances and being focused on what one wants to achieve in life with an example of Virendar Shewag, who generally sings a song that he likes whenever he is batting just to stay focused and not take the pressure. Various such insights like, “Control the controllables”that is your mind, “Focus on solutions, not the problems”, try to have“ Purposeful practise”, “Focus on the gaps not on the fielders” were also few lessons that were discussed in this session.
Followed by the session was an interactive Q&A session from the students to the guests. Their homecoming became a masterclass, where cricket became a metaphor for life. They highlighted how lessons from pitch can be applied to life. This session was a perfect mix of passion, discipline, humour which is the ultimatum to success. Students left inspired, carrying forward lessons that go far beyond the field.
