Communal tensions rose in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, 11th July 2025, when members of some Hindu Organisations, including the Bajrang Dal, vandalised a tomb in Abu Nagar, Rediya locality of Sadar tehsil. They alleged that a temple existed there. Members of various Hindu Organisations rushed into the tomb with saffron flags and sticks to vandalise the site.
The district administration deployed heavy police and PAC contingents in a rush across the area, and put up barricades around the disputed site to prevent further conflict. The conflict was about the structure that is officially registered under Khasra number 753 in government records as Maqbara Mangi.
Locals present confirmed that around 1000 people from different Hindu organizations like Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti, Hindu Mahasabha and the Bajrang Dal, rushed into the temple around 10 am. They were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and climbed on top and hoisted a saffron flag. They claimed it was the site for a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Krishna.
Math Mandir Sangharsh Samiti, according to the sources, had given the Fatehpur District Magistrate Ravidra Singh a memorandum alleging that the tomb was originally a temple. They had demanded the removal of the tomb as they wanted to perform a puja on the site on 11th.
Anoop Kumar Singh, the Superintendent of Police, Fatehpur, said that a case was registered at the Kotwali Nagar Police station against 10 known and 150 unnamed offenders who had forced entry into the tomb and vandalised the structure. He added that all the accused will be identified and arrested soon.
The conflict stems from the district president of Bharatiya Janata Party Mukhlal Pal’s allegation that the tomb was the site of a thousand year old temple and the presence of a Lotus and trident on the tomb were the proof cited by him.
