On Sunday, a Finance Ministry official was killed in an accident when his motorcycle was hit by a BMW near Delhi Cantonment Metro, while the couple was returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara.
Booked for culpable homicide, the driver has been arrested and identified as Gaganpreet, for causing the death of 52 year old Navjot Singh, who was a senior Finance Ministry official. During the incident, three people were injured which included Navjot Singh’s wife.
According to a report by PTI, the Police of Delhi have filed a case of culpable homicide, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 281,125(B), 238, and 105. Both the BMW and the motorcycle are seized, and the scene of crime has been analyzed by the investigation team and forensic experts.
According to police, the man riding the bike, reportedly an employee of the Finance Ministry, was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident. The BMW involved in the crash is said to have been driven by a businessman from Gurugram. Police have filed an FIR under sections related to the accident and alleged destruction of evidence, officials said.
Singh’s wife said in her statement that the blue BMW was speeding and this led to it overturning on the road. She added that after the accident, she started losing consciousness and blacked out. She claimed that after the accident a male driver and a female placed her and her husband into a van-like vehicle and took them someplace else.
She requested them to take her and her husband to the nearest hospital, especially because her husband was unconscious, but were taken to a far away small medical facility in GTB Nagar. Here they were kept waiting on stretchers outside the facility for a long time. She claimed that her requests to be taken to a nearby hospital were ignored.
Navnoor Singh, the couple’s son, said a family friend informed him about the accident and told him that his parents had been taken to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar.
