The cyber police of Pimpri Chinchwad of Pune, Maharashtra have registered a case against four employees of an IT company residing in Hinjewadi accusing them of stealing confidential data of an estimated worth amounting to 82 crore rupees. According to the sources, the fraud had been taking place from April last year to August of this year.

As per the statement of police, on Wednesday 13th August, a representative of the victim company had filed a complaint against the accused for allegedly stealing the company’s codes and software. The four accused also included a woman. Police say that using the illegally sourced codes and software, the accused has developed more than 100 websites and had been generating revenue from it.

The complaint states that the alleged crime has directly impacted the company’s ventures resulting in extreme financial loss. A complaint under section 316, criminal breach of trust and 318, cheating of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to the relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Investigation is in process to identify the altitude of the operation as well as the existence of collaborators if any. Cyber police say that the accused are yet to be under custody.

This case marks a sect of growing crimes faced by IT companies. Theft of intellectual property especially in the IT fields has become a peak concern particularly when insiders turn out to be the culprit. The firms are becoming vulnerable to the external hackers. No arrests have been yet made making it even more of a scary issue as the culprits are more than capable of utilizing the time acquired by them to maximum capacity.

Over the past years, with steady rise in technology, India has also witnessed steady rise in cyber crimes. from voice fishing to identity theft and extortion of monetary units, the cases do not seem to back down in numbers. Like the Hinjewadi IT firm, hundreds of companies across the country have fallen victim to such heinous crimes.
