Google Pay and Axis Bank have together introduced a new UPI-connected digital credit card in India, representing Google’s initial significant entry into the co-branded credit card sector within the country.

The card, named the Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card, was released on Tuesday, 17 December 2025. It is completely digital and seamlessly integrated into the Google Pay app. Users are able to connect it to their UPI account and use it to make payments by scanning QR codes or at locations that accept RuPay credit cards. This functionality is available both online and in physical stores.

The card operates on the RuPay network, allowing applicants to go through the entire application process within the Google Pay app without the need for any physical documents.

Additionally, on certain transactions, it provides instant rewards and offers flexible repayment choices.

Despite the broad adoption of digital payments through UPI, credit card usage is still not very common in India. However, this launch is intended to increase access to everyday credit in the country, as stated by Google Pay.

In addition to the credit card, Google Pay is also launching a feature known as “Pocket Money,” which allows parents to provide their children with controlled access to digital payment facilities.

This development positions Google Pay as a direct competitor to other fintech companies that already offer co-branded credit products in India’s rapidly expanding digital finance market.

“Built on the RuPay network, the card aims to make the credit experience as common as the UPI payments people use daily, supported by Google Pay’s convenient and secure experience along with Axis Bank’s reliable banking expertise,” stated the companies in their official announcement.
