Australia beat England by five wickets on the fifth and final day of the Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday to seal a convincing 4-1 series victory.

It has been a familiar story for the Kangaroos who have now won their fourth Ashes series at home in a row. Australia have secured victory in 17 out of the 20 Tests against England on home soil, underlining their dominance in the rivalry.

The hosts won the first three Tests of the series in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane to take a commanding lead and eventually clinch the series comfortably against England.

Despite England’s “Bazzball” approach ,the Aussies clearly built their dominance through their aggressive batting, relentless pace bowling and tactical approach. They set the tone early in the series, consistently putting England under both scoreboard and psychological pressure.

Mitchell Starc played a very crucial role in Australia’s bowling attack and emerged as the  player of the series, claiming 31 wickets in the five match contest at an excellent average. The left-arm pacer consistently keep experimenting with the new ball to disrupt England’s aggressive batters striking early wickets and easily providing an easy route towards victory. He also made contributions to the win by scoring 150+ runs and registering two fifties during the series.

With 3000+ runs scored across 42 matches at this point, it is fair to say that Smith’s ability to handle the pressure of the moment and control the tempo of the match have been important components of the overall Australian success during the series so far.

We will remember Ashes 2026 for so many years to come because it was a very exciting, high-stakes series, setting all kinds of records, introducing new players as household names, and capturing everything that makes Test match cricketers so exciting.
