India concluded their performance at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool with two gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, on Sunday.
Jaismine Lamboria and Minakshi Hooda competed in the 57g and 48 kg category respectively, and were crowned world champions. Nupur Sheoran secured a silver in the 80+kg category and Olympian Pooja Rani won a bronze in the 80kg category.
Jaismine won the gold by defeating Olympic silver medallist and Poland’s number one seed Julia Szeremeta in a high-class featherweight (W57kg) final. Her bout against Szeremeta began with the Polish boxer taking the early initiative and was under intense pressure. But, the 24-year-old Indian used her superior reach and sharp counterpunching to wrest control of the contest and regrouped brilliantly in the second round.
Thereafter, she kept going, sealing a 4-1 split decision victory and India’s first gold medal of the tournament.
Minakshi Hooda, 24 years old, from Rurki, Haryana, won India’s second gold, and made up for her World Cup silver. She defeated the Paris Olympics bronze medallist Nazym Kyzaibay, who is a Kazakh amateur boxer, 4-1 in the women’s 48kg final onSeptember 14, 2025.
With heavyweight boxer Nupur winning the silver, India’s medal tally grew even more. She battled valiantly against Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska in the women’s +80kg final but fell short.
Kazmarska, shorter but aggressive, neutralized Nupur’s height advantage by fighting at close quarters in a tightly fought contest. The Polish boxer edged out Nupur 3-2 on split decision by landing a decisive punch in the dying seconds.
Pooja Rani secured a podium finish earlier in the day, signing off with a bronze after a gritty semifinal battle against England’s Emily Asquith.
This was a historic event for India’s, with three women boxers- Minakshi, Jasmine, and Nupur reaching the finals for the first time ever.
