Dominic Szoboszlai’s fantastic free kick helps the English Premier League defending champions Liverpool defeat Arsenal at home in Anfield, securing three points. This win helps Liverpool to sit at the top of the table, just two points above Chelsea.
The Hungarian midfielder scored a dashing free kick from 30 yards out in the 83rd minute of the match. The goalkeeper David Raya was unable to stop the ball as it soared past him to hit the top corner. Following this victory, Liverpool managed to be the only team in the Premier League to be unbeaten as the teams head towards the international break. Arsenal, meanwhile, is currently in third position after their away defeat. Liverpool have earned nine points from their three matches, whereas Arsenal has six.
Arsenal suffered an early setback as their star defender William Saliba got injured within the first five minutes of the match. Following this injury, Christhian Mosquera subbed on early as the youngster managed to get 2 tackles and 47 passes in the 85 minutes he played.
Prior to the news of Alexander Isak joining the Reds on deadline day, Liverpool made one change to their regular starting eleven as Alexis Mac Allister took the place of Curtis Jones. In Arsenal’s side, Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino replaced the starting positions of Bukayo Saka, the starboy and Martin Odegaard.
Mikel Arteta, the coach for Arsenal, made a risky decision to sub on Max Dowman, the teenage wonder kid in place of Noni Madueke in the dying embers of the match. This decision was speculated to be made following the poor attacking efforts of the attacking front in the latter half of the match.
While Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah failed to make as huge of a mark as he usually does, Szoboszlai managed to earn the spotlight onto himself. He scored a screamer following the foul from Zubimendi on Curtis Jones, which eventually led to Arne Slot’s side getting all three points.
