Lionel Messi was on the sidelines for Argentina’s clash with Bolivia, but not before signing paperwork with FIFA. He signed an agreement that made him assistant coach of the team. 

The World Cup champion was reportedly unable to make the starting lineup or even the bench because of an injury he acquired in the team’s previous game against Ecuador. However, the player was permitted to watch from the sidelines as Argentina defeated Bolivia 3-0, with goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Tagliafico, and Nicolas Gonzalez.

After two victories in two games, the Albiceleste are tied with Brazil at the summit of CONMEBOL qualifying. Messi’s absence has been ascribed by Argentina to exhaustion.
