One of the most prominent names in Indian fast bowling, cricketer Mohammad Siraj, recently won the title of ICC Men’s Player of the Month for his resilience while playing against the English in the Oval test, which was the only match he played in August.
India found itself in a tricky situation at the Oval, and that’s when Siraj rose to the occasion and helped the Indian team by picking nine wickets in both the innings at an average of 21.11. His outstanding spell not only helped the Indian team win the test but also ensured that the series ended on level terms at 2-2.
The fast bowler was also named the player of the match for his remarkable efforts in the final test, along with a five-wicket haul in the second innings, bowling 46 overs in total.
The right-arm pacer beat competition from New Zealand’s Matt Henry and West Indies’ Jayden Seales to claim the monthly award. Alongside Siraj, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast was also named as the player of the month in Women’s cricket.
Siraj played with the same intensity and aggression throughout the series, making him the leading wicket-taker of the series, as he was the only Indian pacer included in the playing XI of all five test matches against England.
The cricketer also mentioned that the Anderson-Tendulkar series was one of the most intense yet memorable Test series he has played. He was extremely honoured and grateful to receive the title of Player of the Month.
Siraj also reflected on how challenging it was to play in England’s varied and demanding conditions, yet he still managed to deliver his best for the team. He said that the award belongs not only to him but also to his teammates and the support staff who always stood by him and supported his decisions throughout the series.
