Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) saw a voter turnout of 52 per cent for the 15th January, 2026, elections. Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra; Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister; and Mohan Bhagwat, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief, are the high-profile voters who exercised their franchise on Thursday.

The Previous 2017 election held in the Municipal Corporation

In the 2017 elections the Bharatiya Janata Party won 108 of 151 seats, Congress won 28 seats and the Bahujan Samaj Party won 12 seats.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation has 38. Four corporators will be elected from 37 wards, whereas ward 38 will elect three corporators, summing up to 151 corporators in total. 

The current election spread out details

The total number of voters eligible to cast their ballot was 2,483,112. There are 151 seats in 38 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting for 143 seats in alliance with Shiv Sena, contesting 8 seats.

EVM Snags And other problems

During the polls the electronic voting machines had glitches in some wards. The same issue was reported in parts of Shirgaon, Akola (Pink Polling Center), Amravati, Chatrapati Sambhajinagar (Kanya Vidyalaya) and Dhule, an official told PTI. Nagpur civic poll’s BJP candidate, Bhusan Shigne, was attacked and left injured by a group of people on the eve of the polls, the police officials informed on Thursday. Shigne is a former corporator of Ward No. 11 of NMC.
