Legendary Filmmaker and Actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday night.
Authorities are treating the deaths as an apparent homicide after police and firefighters were called to the couple’s house late Sunday night in a posh residential area of a LA neighbourhood known for housing celebrities.
In a statement, they have confirmed their death to US media and have asked for private time during this difficult time.
The police are now reporting the deaths of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old man and have declared them both dead. The police could not identify the old couple nor find a cause of death for them at first. They did, however, say that at present, no suspect or person of interest has been apprehended, and they are still looking for them.
A call was placed at approximately 15:38 IST for medical aid in the Brentwood area. The case is being probed under a homicide investigation launched by the Los Angeles Police Department, which is being overseen by Chief Alan Hamilton. “The bodies were in the residence for in excess of six hours after the police and firefighters arrived,” Alan Hamilton stated.
Questions that remain unanswered include the type of wounds received by the victims and if a weapon was used.
Reiner is famous for directing “When Harry Met Sally,” “This is Spinal Tap,” “Stand by Me,” “Misery,” and “A Few Good Men,” among other classics. He started his career in the 1960s and attained a lot of success in the 1970s with “All in the Family,” which was a television sitcom. He has also featured in other movies such as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Postcards from the Edge,” and “Bullets over Broadway.”
Reiner also co-founded the successful production company Castle Rock Entertainment and actively advocated for social and political causes, particularly in support of Democratic candidates. Members of the Hollywood TV and Film Industry, along with politicians, have paid their tributes to the renowned personality.
