The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to bring history alive with a grand historical mega-play titled Shivgarjana, marking the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Scheduled from February 17 to 19 at the proposed Mayor’s Residence ground in Nigdi Pradhikaran, the production will be the central highlight of the civic body’s five-day “Vichar Prabodhan Parva” celebrations.

This is no mere stage performance. With more than 250 artists, live horses and camels on stage, sets, lights, sound, and even fireworks, Shivgarjana takes you on a journey into the extraordinary life of Shivaji Maharaj.

It will take you back to a point in history when Swarajya was not only a dream, but a reality.

The play covers significant events in his life, from his childhood and early years to his meeting with Sant Tukaram Maharaj, the historic conquest of Torna Fort, the Pratapgad operations, the daring escape from Panhala Fort, the strengthening of the Maratha navy, diplomacy, and finally the coronation ceremony.

Every scene is intended to underscore his bravery on the battlefield and his sharpness of vision as a military leader and administrator.

The inaugural show on February 17 at 6:30 pm is expected to be attended by Mayor Ravi Landge, along with several Union and state ministers, senior civic officials, and citizens in large numbers.

According to PCMC officials, Shivgarjana’s purpose goes beyond spectacle. The work is intended to inspire, especially the youth, by re-emphasising the essential virtues that defined Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy: valour, good governance, and self-confidence.

As the city prepares its definitive plan for comfortable seating, security arrangements, and smooth traffic flow, it is getting ready for what may turn out to be one of the most significant events of the year for the Shiv Jayanti festivities.
