Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tokyo yesterday, for a two day long visit for the 15th Annual Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. The summit was held to facilitate talks about mutual growth through strengthening ties in various sectors of trade and technology.
The release of a joint statement was announced today. The 2035 Vision Statement will be released along with a joint statement by the prime ministers of India and Japan in the Summit. The statement aims to upgrade the pre existing 2025 Vision Statement for the future. The previous Vision statement was announced by Prime Minister Modi and the then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe almost ten years ago. The summit meeting and future discussions mark 20 years since the very first annual summit that took place in 2005 during a meeting of Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also presented with a thoughtful and meaningful gift from Japan, which was a traditional Daruma doll, which is a symbol of good luck in Japanese culture. He was presented with this doll today upon his arrival to Tokyo.
Adding to its cultural significance, the Daruma doll was handed over by Rev Seishi Hirose, who serves as the Chief Priest of the revered Shorizan Daruma-Ji temple. The Ministry of External Affairs revealed this information in a press release shortly after the gifting. “This special gesture reaffirms the close civilisational and spiritual ties between India and Japan,” the press release stated.
Modi spoke about past collaborations between India and Japan in technology, highlighting automobiles, batteries, robotics, semiconductors, and nuclear energy, adding that Japan has consistently been an important partner in India’s growth and development
He also stated that the 10 year India – Japan roadmap will mainly concentrate on investment, innovation, economic security, environment, technology, and the health sector.
