In a significant stride towards easing urban commuting challenges, Pune Metro and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have joined hands to introduce a pioneering approach to alleviate the persistent parking woes faced by commuters. This strategic collaboration, which comes on the heels of the recent expansion of the Pune Metro, is poised to redefine urban mobility by enhancing accessibility and convenience for daily travelers.
The alliance between Pune Metro and PMC is expected to be a game-changing initiative to confront this issue and ensure that seamless mobility remains a priority for the city’s development.
The collaborative project’s first phase is slated to cover stations across the newly extended Pune Metro lines. This includes a comprehensive evaluation of station areas to determine optimal parking layouts, incorporating user-friendly facilities, and ensuring better connectivity between parking lots and metro platforms.
The changes made to the metro route were motivated by the need to preserve the historical significance of the Aga Khan Palace, a designated heritage site. As part of this alteration, the original route along Jangli Maharaj Road was redirected through the riverbed, leading the metro line towards the headquarters of the Municipal Corporation.
Presently operational between Vanaz and Ruby Hall Clinic, the metro service now confronts the task of ensuring appropriate parking arrangements for its users. To drive this endeavor, a specialized committee comprising of two officials from both PMC and Mahametro will be established. The core responsibility of this committee will involve conducting thorough on-site assessments to identify potential areas suitable for parking facilities.
Srinivas Bonala, the Head of the Project Department, has affirmed that the upcoming Mahametro station will be developed within the municipal premises, with the aim of providing a seamless commuting experience for metro passengers.
As the Pune metro network continues to grow and evolve, addressing the persistent parking challenges emerges as a critical stride in enhancing the overall quality of public transportation within the city.
