The bustling stations of Pune and Mumbai are very crowded and occasional incidents of arguments and controversy. To address this issue, the Pune railway administration has initiated an extension of the platforms at Pune railway station, which improves the accommodation of more passengers and provides a better and smooth-flowing crowd at the station.
Currently the expansion of 30%of the platform has been done and it can accommodate 24 and 26 coaches train efficiently on platforms 2,3 and 6. This helped the railway administration to accommodate a higher capacity of passengers who were traveling.
The Pune railway station is noticing an increase in the number of travelers, also addition of more trains to the schedule is insufficient and capacity remains at large. So Indian railway has taken the initiative to add another terminal in Hadapsar. However, Mumbai being such a famous location, the railway station has decided to increase the number of coaches on trains serving this route but the length of the platform in Mumbai falls short it can only efficiently accommodate 16 and 18 coaches trains.
To overcome this obstacle the railway administration has initiated
• the expansion of 2,3 and 6 which will accommodate 24 and 26 coaches very easily
• installation of six double diamond switches. This infrastructure improvement will improve operational flexibility
• converting lines into main lines: line 3 will be converted into a UP mainline and line 4 will DOWN mainline.
• Lengthing platforms for goods trains: the building of infrastructure will be carried out to accommodate full-length goods train platforms 1 and 2
Notable improvements have already been made, including the extension of track 6 which leads to Mumbai, the connection of line 8 will be made to the new washing side, the completion of 300 meters of track lengths, and the packing of the railway line of 1-kilometer stretch. Also, the installation of overhead wires has been started the relocation of data loggers and fuse to build a new relay room. These all efforts are being put in to improve the number of passengers traveling from Mumbai to Pune or Pune to Mumbai train route.
