A 17-year-old boy identified as Sonu Alias Lakhsn Balu, a resident of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Vasahat, was brutally murdered at the Rajmata Jijau Oxygen Park in Chandan Nagar on 6th December 2025, last Saturday evening, leading to a serial arrest of five youths and the detention of a minor boy.
The victim’s uncle, Keshav Waghmare, a 32-year-old autorickshaw driver, has lodged an FIR complaint at the Chandan Nagar police station against the six individuals. The police have arrested Shankar Darku (20), Yash Gaikwad (19), Jankiram Waghmare (18), Mahadev Gangasagare (19) and Balaji Pedapure (19), the residents of Borate Vasti. A minor is also detained in connection with the killing of Sonu Alias.
According to the FIR, things went downhill on Friday when Lakhan called out the accused, Yash Gaikwad, for allegedly troubling his friend’s sister. Yash claims that he was “in love” with the girl, which led to a heated conflict between the two young boys.
According to the investigators, the dispute has led to a planned assault, and on Saturday evening, the accused allegedly tricked Lakhan into coming to the oxygen park, and then they attacked him with sharp weapons around 7 pm, leaving him badly injured in a pool of blood. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was declared dead as soon as he arrived.
Upon receiving the alert, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Seema Dhakane launched a search operation and caught the accused shortly after.
Police said the investigation is still in the process of understanding the exact sequence of the events and the role of each accused in the murder.
