Israel has agreed to the conditions laid down by Trump for the Gaza ceasefire proposal, as stated by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Monday. In a conference with his Hungarian counterpart, Saar said Israel is ready to do their part and put an end to the war.
He further added that the “full deal” would be implemented only after release of the remaining 48 hostages and extensive disarmament. The Israel-Palestine conflict has been ongoing since October 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel and captured hostages in response to the decades-long Israeli occupation and oppression.
The deal came to the forefront soon after Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Everyone wants the hostages home. Everyone wants this war to end! This is my last warning. There will not be another one!”.
In a similar cautionary statement, Israel Katz, Israel’s Defence Minister, wrote on X that Palestine would face a “powerful hurricane” if they do not meet their demands. While details of the proposal are unknown, Steve Witkoff, Middle East envoy to the US, reportedly submitted the deal to Hamas. The deal also includes release of 2500-3000 Palestinian prisoners and life sentences for killing Israelis.
Hamas has also responded in agreement to the deal, provided that Israeli forces retreat from Gaza. They have also demanded a “public and explicit commitment” from Israel. There would be no fighting or attacks as long as the negotiations continue, as per one of the Israeli officials.
This set of new negotiations has been proposed by the US after the first round of negotiations fell through in March 2025. The ceasefire was violated by Israel as it accused Hamas of refusing release of hostages and new planned attacks.
