A prominent figure connected to English cricket is at the centre of a police investigation following allegations of drink spiking and sexual assault at a London pub. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the individual’s ties to the sport, though his identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the alleged incident took place on May 22 at The Boundary, a high-profile venue in the SW6 area of south-west London. Two women reported that their drinks had been tampered with, and one later claimed she was sexually assaulted after the suspected spiking.
Detectives interviewed a man in his 40s under caution on June 5 in connection with the case. Police have not made any arrests, and no formal charges have been filed so far. Officials stressed that inquiries remain ongoing and that the investigation is being treated with the utmost seriousness.
The Boundary, the venue where the alleged crime occurred, is partly owned by many celebrated sports personalities. Among its shareholders are current and former cricketers such as Brendon McCullum, Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan, Sam Billings, Graeme Smith, and rugby international Jamie George. Reports clarified that none of these figures were present at the establishment at the time of the alleged incident.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has acknowledged awareness of the investigation but has chosen not to comment publicly, citing the ongoing police process. Cricket officials are reportedly monitoring developments closely.
This case adds to mounting pressure on English cricket to confront off-field misconduct. In recent years, the sport has faced a series of controversies, including racism scandals, disciplinary breaches, and questions about safeguarding.
