Bhutan’s 22-year-old left-armed spinner Sonam Yeshey created history by claiming eight wickets in a T20 International, he is the first bowler to do so. Yeshey registered best bowling figures in a T20I, finishing with 8 for 7 in his four over spell. He dismantled the Myanmar batting order as Bhutan bowled them out for a paltry 45, making the way for a 81 run victory.
The official handle of Bhutan Cricket appreciated Sonam’s record by saying that a history was made because of Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey’s world record bowling spell. They called him a left-armed magician who claimed 8/7 in 4 overs playing against Myanmar.
The series belonged to Bhutan completely, a 5-0 victory with Soam Yeshey leading the bowling attack, finished with 13 wickets. The achievement stands out because only six bowlers have managed a seven wicket haul in T20 International so far, two in men’s cricket and four in women’s cricket.
Rohmalia of Indonesia owns the best figures in women’s T20 International with 7 for 0 against Mongolia in 2024, while Malaysia’s Syazural Idrus previously held the men’s record with figures of 7for 8 against China but now it belongs to Bhutan’s Sonam Yeshey.
Yeshey first made headlines with a three-wicket haul in T20I debut against Malaysia in 2022 and has taken a step forward since then with 38 wickets in 35 matches marking his impact at international level.
He got 38 wickets from 35 T20I matches which have come to an average of 17.10 and a strike rate of 18.4 , with an economy rate of 5.5. Also contributed 37 runs with the bat, a top score of 11 not out against Myanmar in 2023.
