At the beginning of the Kolhapur Municipal Election process, the Congress party was ahead and received official election results for four Bahujan Samaj Party (BJP) candidates. The counting of votes started on Friday at 10 am.

According to the statistics supplied by the Election Commission of Maharashtra, there are a total of 491,711 registered voters in Kolhapur, with a breakdown of 244,524 male and 249,471 female voters. Of the total registered voters, 81 members of the city councils for Kolhapur and Karad were selected from 20 electoral districts within Maharashtra. Since municipal government authority is exercised through city councils in Maharashtra, the city council results will guide future municipal governance in this state.

Approximately 29 municipal council elections were held on January 15, with around 3.49 million registered voters eligible to vote for 2869 city council members (corporators). To ensure both secure and safe polling in the above municipal councils, the state government allocated a large number of police and other personnel (including the Inspector-General of Police, constables, male and female) and reserve units of the SRPF (State Reserve Police Force) and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force).
