The movie which features Sunny Deol in the main role, whose title is ‘Border 2’, has apparently been banned in the Gulf countries due to the contents of the film. There are reports that the movie will not be allowed for release in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE, as the movie includes “anti-Pakistan” content.

Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh. It has been filmed against the backdrop of the 1971 war between Indian and Pakistan and is set to release in Indian cinemas on January 23rd, 2026. Border 2 is set to be the first big movie of 2026 from Bollywood. The star cast includes Sunny Deol along with Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.

A source cited by a source at Bollywood Hungama claimed that some films classified as sensitive or political have been affected in the Gulf countries. “The team did try for a release, but their efforts were unsuccessful. With just a day left for release, the chances of approval appear slim,” the source said.

This is the second Indian film in recent months to face a similar ban. Earlier, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar was also not allowed to release in the same Gulf countries due to comparable concerns. Despite the ban, Dhurandhar went on to perform strongly at the box office worldwide.

The makers of Border 2 are said to be unfazed by the development, as the Gulf market ban is not expected to significantly affect the film’s overall earnings if it connects with Indian audiences.

Backed by T-Series Films and JP Films, Border 2 expands on the original film’s theme by showcasing coordinated operations of the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. The buzz around the film remains high ahead of its release.
