A speeding luxury Lamborghini ran over pedestrians and hit vehicles on VIP Road in Kanpur on Sunday afternoon, injuring several people. The incident triggered a police investigation. The car that belongs to the family of a wealthy tobacco businessman ran amok near a busy stretch, sending the residents into panic.
The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) after the incident, initially naming an “unidentified person” as the driver. Later, the name of Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon KK Mishra – owner of Banshidhar Exports Private Limited – was added to the FIR. The vehicle involved was a high-end Lamborghini Revuelto worth over ₹10 crore.
It was also seen that the vehicle rammed into an auto rickshaw first and then a parked motorcycle, throwing its rider into the air before finally halting. There were reportedly about six injuries, including leg and body-related, which were taken to the hospital.
On Monday, lawyer of Shivam Mishra, Mrityunjay Kumar, said that his client wasn’t driving the car when it crashed, adding that the driver of the family was behind the wheel and called it an “accident case.” Police confirmed the FIR and said the car is seized and the investigation into the accident is underway but no arrests have been made so far.
The case has attracted considerable public attention in view of the lavish lifestyle and affluence of the Mishra family, whose residence was subjected to income tax raids and who own several luxury automobiles.
