The Aurangabad civic polls have turned highly competitive, with 859 contenders in the race and many experienced leaders making a return. 96 former corporators are fighting for 115 seats in Aurangabad, making it one of the most competitive contests in Maharashtra. The election features the comeback of experienced local politicians and family members of prominent leaders.
The competition mainly involves four parties: the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the Uddhav Thackeray (UBT)-led Shiv Sena, and AIMIM, while the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also influence certain regions. Only 58 seats are needed for claiming the majority.
