BJP leader Pramod Yadav was shot dead on Thursday in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh by unidentified gunmen. He was unable to sustain the injuries and eventually succumbed to them. The incident took place near the Bodhpur village turn, located in the Sikarara police station area in the Jaunpur district.

The assailants stopped 55-year-old Pramod Yadav under the guise of giving him a card, according to the authorities, and shot him three times in broad daylight at 10 am. The assailants ran off the scene, leaving their motorcycles at some distance.

Pramod Yadav was the president of BJM Kisan Morcha, Jaunpur. He was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.

Ajaipal Sharma, Jaunpur Superintendent of Police, stated that several teams have been deployed to make sure the assailants are apprehended, and the preliminary investigation has led them to important clues. Further investigation is underway.

Pramod Yadav was one of the contestants in the 2012 assembly elections from the Malhani seat on the BJP ticket against MP Dhananjay Singh’s wife Jagriti Singh. Later in 2017, the duo got divorced, and Dhananjay Singh later got married to Srikala Reddy.

On Wednesday, Dhananjay Singh was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in a kidnapping and extortion case from 2020. Before the arrest, Singh was reported to be preparing to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled to take place between April and May 2024, from Jaunpur on a ticket from Janata Dal (United). Due to the conviction, he is no longer eligible to contest the elections as per the Representation of the People Act.

On Tuesday, Additional Sessions Judge Sharad Kumar Tripathi found Singh and accomplice Santosh Vikram guilty in the kidnapping case of Abhinav Singhal, the project manager of Namami Gange. Along with the guilty verdict that was passed, Judge Tripathi also imposed a fine of Rs. 75,000 on each of them, as stated by District Government Counsel (Criminal) Satish Pandey.
